Disney Project

Class developed and conducted by Tony Yao

The objective of this project was to create toys based on Disney themed intellectual properties.  Each high school student selected a Disney themed movie and designed a variety of children’s toys utilizing characters and events from the specific movies and animations.

Themes for this project included the Incredibles, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pinocchio, Toy Story, Alice in Wonderland, and Finding Nemo.

This class met once a week on Saturday afternoon and the students only had a total of 10 weeks to research, design, sketch, render large-scale renderings, and build actual working models, and create a complete Disney themed group environment to present the completed presentation.  All of this was done on a shoestring budget, with out the aid of a computer lab or model shop.  We only had ourselves and our ingenuity to rely on.

I am proud to say that after this class, EVERY student who participated was successfully admitted in to the Art Center College of Design right after they completed high school.  Many of them are now working professionals in the industrial design industry.
